MORNING PRESCHOOL
Fremont Community School is still accepting applications for the 2010-2011 school year. All afternoons have space. We do rolling admissions throughout the school year as spaces open on other days. Thank you for your interest in FCS and feel free to contact us with any questions! (updated April 15, 2010)

Tours/Open Houses/Family Meetings:
Tours are available on Friday mornings from 9:30-10:00am. Space is limited so please contact us in advance. Since it is a very short visit, we encourage you to come without your child (infants are welcome). Open Houses are chance to come meet staff and visit the school during non-school hours. After we have received your application, we will schedule a family meeting time for you to bring your child and meet with the teachers.

Application Deadlines:
February 5, 2010 – Deadline for currently enrolled families to recommit
February 12, 2010 – Application deadline for new families.  Applications submitted after this date will be accepted on a space available basis or put in our wait pool.

Application Fee: there is a $50 non-refundable application fee due with every new application.

Afternoon Program hourly between 1:00pm-5:00pm.

The Board approves the following school year calendar in the Spring.  FCS follows Seattle Public Schools for snow closures.

Afternoon Program
FCS also offers an afternoon child care program.  This is an hourly program that uses the same facilities and philosophies as the morning program, but is hourly child care, not a preschool with a curriculum.  Drop in care is available on a space available basis.

Children are legally only allowed to be at FCS for a maximum of four hours per day.  We have a close business relationship with Tara’s Tots, a similar program next door which also offers an afternoon program.  If a child attends FCS in the morning, but needs full day care, they are taken to Tara’s Tots for the afternoon.  They are welcome to attend the FCS afternoon program on days they did not attend the FCS morning program.  The afternoon program is also open to children who are not enrolled in the morning program.  Contact Tara’s Tots directly for their enrollment information – tarastotsinc@gmail.com or by phone at 206.327.9193.

Afternoons are billed at an hourly rate of $7 per hour.  There is no partial hour billing.  A refundable deposit of $100 is paid at enrollment and is applied to the June bill.  Any remaining credit will be refunded in June.

Contact the school administrator for an afternoon application.  There is a $50 application fee for the afternoon program.  If you have completed an application for the FCS morning program, you do not need to submit one for the FCS afternoon program.

Arts and Crafts Program

FCS Afternoon Arts and Craft Program
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday
3:45-5:45pm
Ages 5-10

Visit our blog: http://fcsarts.wordpress.com/

Buy a punch card or drop in for a single day!  During our Fall classes children ages 5-10 will learn how to use silk screens to create prints, create patterns on fabric using dye, use beeswax crayons as a resist with watercolors, make moss paintings, weave with hand-made yarns, assemble large twig sculptures, collage with found materials and design and sew large creatures out of cloth.  We will be using these techniques and materials to create art as individuals and as a group.  Our art will be exhibited at FCS, in nature, in your homes and in the community!!

Monday
The Aliens are Coming!:  Paint, draw and sculpt alients, alien spacecraft, and other outer space themed projects. We might even take a trip into space wearing our special space masks and suits. Be prepared to see little green men!

Tuesday
Wild Inventors:  Become a wild inventor! We'll look at how things are built in the real world and add fantasy. We'll design fantasy vehicles and dream environments with a dash of magic! We'll play with optical illusions, illustrate tall tales, and make sculptures with a funny sense of scale.

Wednesday
Passion for Fashion:  Go gaga! Using recycled clothing, we'll make stylish items for your room, wardrobe and spirit! Handbags out of packing tape, clothing made out of hand-printed used fabrics, embellished, refurbished and reprinted and painted shoes, wall hangings and more! Whether you are into books, beauty or basketball, we'll decorate and enhance everything around you!

Thursday
Mosaic Madness:  This is a huge project! Learn how to identify, gather, plan and incorporate found objects into a mural that will be in FCS for everyone to see. Bring your old, your broken, your what-do-I-do-with-that stuff and we'll transform it into beauty!

*You may buy a 5 class ($110) or 10 class ($200) punch card valid for the whole school year. Punch cards come with a free friend coupon! Drop in rate is $25. Reservations are encouraged, but you may call the day of to see if there is space available.  Contact Sharon Tapia at sharonfcs@gmail.com or 206.547.4054 for more information on registration.

*Teacher Julia Freeman is thrilled to share her love of art and nature with children.  Julia is a professional artist who has been represented in galleries, exhibited internationally, and had her work featured in professional art magazines.  She has taught children of all ages and abilities.  Julia strives to create art and crafts that stretch children to think beyond what is immediately in front of them.
